Why would you want a silicone sock?
There are multiple big advantages for such a small upgrade.
- They keep the heatblock insulated, you don’t want your heatblock and nozzle to cool down because of the part cooling fan, do you?
- Plastic won’t stick to the heatblock anymore! This significantly lowers the chance of filament blobs and failed prints in general.
- The screw holes for the thermistor and heater screws are covered, no more plastic residue filling the bolt head, this makes it easier to unscrew the heater and thermistor in case they break.
- Less heat radiates from the heatblock, this causes a cooler environment and better part cooling for the print.
These Silicone socks are designed by levendig|dsgn, they are tailor-made for the Original Prusa MK2/3(S)(+).
These socks are injection moulded instead of home-made, the advantages being lower prices, a smoother and easier to clean surface and most importantly, temperature resistance up to 300°C for continues use.
The V2 silicone socks are improved in a few different areas over the V1 socks. These socks cover all the screws instead of having unnecessary holes for the screws (where that nasty plastic residue can get into).
Be careful when removing the socks from the hotend, the relatively sharp edges can tear the sock if you take it off rapidly.
When using the silicone socks for the first time, there will be a smell. The smell will disappear in a few hours.
All socks are designed in The Netherlands by Thomas Levendig!
